Winter Bees - 2010
To show what a warm winter we had this past year, a member submitted these pictures from her hive in the Glenrose area. The bees are falling out the top of the hive in February!

This bee box cover was made from industrial styrofoam, 2-3 inches thick. Screwed together, leaving enough room around the hive for ventalation (1/2 inch?). The bottom front styrofoam was cut out, to leave it open for the bee's, to come and go. We also added the styrofoam to a honey super box and placed it on top (leaving 5 or so inches of space between the top cover and this super box, before putting the cover on. It allowed for ventalation and also kept the hive dry. The entire cover just slips right over the hive! No fuss. Using this cover has resulted in good strong hives even during the cold and wet winters of the past. Email me if you need one or more info

Great idea for a small bee yard. No wonder they did so well over the winter!
